Thank you SE for not ruining this JRPG franchise 🙂

    I'm sure they are trying.

Star Ocean is still so utterly wacky, utterly JRPG and utterly 101% weaboo. I love it.

A JRPG that knows what it is? I didn't think they still existed. Quiet kids, no sudden movements or it will make a beeline for the west.

Star Ocean: Second Story is still my favorite RPG of all time overall and Star Ocean 3 has what i still consider my favorite story out of any game ever made. I fell in love with that as it came out just ahead of theories that predicted we could be nothing more than a complex simulation, prompting the search for the Higgs-Boson particle. That game was far more then just a simple sci-fi story.

Star Ocean 4 was a little lackluster on all fronts but was still better then a lot of other RPGs. I just hope 5 ticks all the boxes, but regardless it will be a day 1 purchase.

Yup, 3 was Matrix philosophy and 4 was 60's Star Trek 🙂

Star Ocean 3 was amazing, definitely one of my favourite RPGs on the PS2.

I loved the story too, it was a mind trip to say the least 🙂

Did you complete the Cave of Trials in Second Story? And did you get through all 100 battles in the Arena with Claude?

I did. 🙂 Even got the Santa Boots. LOL

Got about 85% battle trophies for SO3.

Last Hope was pretty darn good and thank god they killed the difficulty curve from TEoT.

Looking forward to this game a lot, SO3 was one of the best RPGs I played on the PS2 minus the voice acting…ugh so bad. It was tied with Xenosaga for a game with a story that tripped out my mind hard.

But I can't help but think parts of this article are directed towards me and my argument for what makes an RPG and RPG.

I'm not going to beat a dead horse, but bottom line is genres are blurring, and if you judge a game based on what the trailer shows then most "RPGs" that come out look more like action games than what we consider to be RPGs. Which is why I defend FF15 currently, it looks like Kingdom Hearts which is an action RPG, and not like DMC or God of war which are pure action with RPG lite mechanics.

That is all I was ever saying…..oh and that Mass Effect 2 and 3 are shooters not RPGS 😛 😛 😛
