I feel no need for a PS4 yet, I still expect more from this generation first.

BTW is the UK PSN down again, I just tried signing on and it wont let me…

  2. Beamboom says:

Seems 9/10 ps3 owners do not want a new ps yet. That alone should keep Sony from rushing with the new console.
Personally I feel the ps3 has not matured until this very year.

  3. karneli lll says:

Its only natural that they start R&D now,Unless you want them to rush last minute like…you know who

I agree with both Ben and Ultima. With so many great titles already out and due soon i really can't get excited about replacing my beloved ps3 with a newer, shinier sibliing. Sure, if uncharted 4, LBP 3, killzone 4 etc. and further sequels start getting announced as ps4 exclusives then my view will change. This is because of the games though, not a new more powerful console. In my mind the games drive my purchases, not the kit. And yes, the psn still seems to be having probs here in blighty 🙁

    Made my day lol

    @DarthSayver21

I read your comment and then decided to read his, and I LOL'd too. Hee-hee.

  7. SolidFantasy says:

Ben are we going to get a review for Red Faction: Armageddon soon?

  8. Ben Dutka PSXE says:

    Yes, hopefully.

  9. hellish_devil says:

With Sony studios still doing great games, and with Sony´s mentality (pleasing the fans), next generation will be as good as this one in terms of first party games. Now multiplat publishers might focus on the online aspect even more, but maybe we can then see the return of Japan as a big part of the industry.

PGU: Been playing Persona 3 FES on my PS2 and Blazblue CT online, (getting my ass kicked).

  10. Lord carlos says:

i'll get the PS4 after its slim model comes out.

PGU:Its all about LA noire, working on getting 5 stars on all cases(just got 4 missions left)
The story in LA noire is absolutely class & i cant wait for the 1st big DLC package!

  11. Alienange says:

What a great week in review. Gotta say I agree with all that PS4 and SE talk. Giving us a system that has better graphics capability really doesn't seem like money well spent at this time. Of course the hardware can do it, but which devs are actually going to invest in making the games? Valve? No. Activision? No. EA? No. The best selling games don't even hit 720p so who cares if the hardware is more powerful?

As for SE, yeah, I just nabbed Nier and hope to start it after a run through 3D Dot Hero. If that game is as fun as you said, then maybe I'll forgive SE, but as of now, they are not the dev I'm looking to for my gaming entertainment.

  12. hellish_devil says:

Nier was developed by Cavia, published by SE.

  13. cLoudou says:

Nier is fun. Excellent soundtrack. Its a shame Cavia got shut down.

  14. Alienange says:

3D Hero is driving me crazy. I might start on Nier earlier than later.

  15. Temjin001 says:

Oh, I'm stoked for PS4. While PS3 games today look pretty spectacular there is still a truck load of full generational processing and hardware advances that can be done in for visuals and for the complexity of level design. While more linear games probably would see mostly a cosmetic upgrade, games like Assassin's Creed and Infamous could benefit immensely from more memory and processing.

Every time I play current gen games, I'm still reminded that we still don't see clothe that actually moves and looks like real clothe(usually a flat texture applied to a polygonal rig). The same goes for hair(particularly long hair), and basically most every other aspect of visual fidelity I can think could be more realistic.

But anyway, that's not to say I'm not real excited to engage in many of the current and future offerings found on PS3, because I am.

PGU: This week has been all over the place. I did Dirt and loved it. I've also been doing quite a bit of GT5. I'm sort of in a lull with it, though. I'm trying to get Golds on the Extreme Series and I just don't have enough cash for a Formula GT car, or even a GT Racing car. I suppose there's more I can do in the 'Special' modes, like get Golds in some of those AMG events. But I really don't want to have to 'grind' by replaying certain races over and over again.
And I went back to try Forza 3, heheheh oh man, yeah, I can't play it. The handling is so, so, not as real.
I read that Turn 10 is 'finally' doing some road telemetry sampling from road surfaces for Forza 4, so that's a step in the right direction, but, even then, there's probably whole lot of other stuff they'd need to address before catching up, including more powerful hardware.

Outside of that. I finally, finally, got Heavy Rain. It's coming to me in the mail. Hopefully by Wednesday it'll get here. And I'm only playing this game because this community thinks so much of it. Maybe I'll be real impressed by it, too.

  16. WorldEndsWithMe says:

You gotta tell me what you think of heavy rain

  17. SoulController says:

No need for a PS4 whatsoever. However I do believe Microsoft will jump the gun again on releasing their next console, seeing as Nintendo is trying to woo the hardcore again. I think Sony should just wait it out as long as possible to release something new, up to at least 2 years after the other consoles if they can. That way they'll have the upper hand on superior hardware again. It'll be interesting to see what happens with MS and Nintendo. Everyone knows, even if certain fanboys don't want to admit it, that Sony has the best first party exclusives. Period.

Square in my eyes is done. I'll cherish all of their past games in the same way I do a classic music album. I'll visit those games from time to time. They are out of touch and dilusional now & clearly no longer want to have an identity.

PGU: Infamous 2 can't come soon enough. Until it gets here, ill keep playing Portal 2 co-op which is an absolute blast! I haven't had that much fun online since demons souls. Vagrant Story has been giving me my JRPG fix. I missed that game when it first came out as I just went away to college. 10 years later better late then never..

  18. WorldEndsWithMe says:

Square games on CDs = Vinyl collection

  19. SoulController says:

Absolutely. For me FF VII is Jimi Hendrix's Axis Bold as Love.

  20. TheHighlander says:

The king is dead, long live the king. SE is dead, we have a new king, Level 5, long may they rule.

  21. WorldEndsWithMe says:

Ya know what though Ben, EVERY generation has had me saying "How much better could it really get?"

I'm with you on Square Enix, by "listened to the fans" they probably mean "Sales of XIII were good so we'll do more of that only faster and dumber"

I've just been playing too many games. I even picked a fight with Quantum Theory. It was awful, but is about to become great fodder for an article. I REALLY need to catch up, cuz I have inFamous, Alice 2, AND Duke Nukem on preorder!

And I had a dream last night that I had Cole's super powers and some of my own. It was wild.

  22. Claire C says:

Hey World, is 'The World Ends With You' a good game? (serious question) =D

  23. WorldEndsWithMe says:

I've never played the game but that IS where I got the name from 🙂

Seemed as good as any and adding the word "The" made it too long for PSXE.

  24. Claire C says:

You never played it? Hee-hee. I figured if anyone new if that game was good it'd be you. =)

  25. piratedrunk says:

I loved the world ends with you. It is definitely worth a look.

  26. WorldEndsWithMe says:

    I can't allow myself to buy a DS 🙂

  27. Claire C says:

Yah, it's a shame so many of the good DS games aren't on the PSP as well (Dragon Quest). I recently started playing my old DS Lite that's been in my closet on account of the 3DS being backwards compatable. I figure whatever games I buy for the DS now will also work on the 3DS down the road if I so decide to get one. The NGP currently has my full attention however.

    PGU!!!
I finished L.A. Noire and I still think highly of it. Really enjoyed the ending sequence which reminded me of the ending to the classic noir film, The Third Man (great movie!!). I think Heavy Rain is better though because of how much more emotionally invested I was in it. Not enough was given about Cole for me to care about him the same as Ethan.

Hope the PS store come back soon. Still really needing to finish Chrono Trigger (DS) and Final Fantasy XIII. Also can't wait for E3 and all the huge announcements. NGP FTW!

    Claire,

PlayStation Fans: Watch E3 Online Right Here
Posted by Jeff Rubenstein // Social Media Manager

Last year, we invited three hundred fans into our press conference. This year, we’re shooting for a million.

You’ve been requesting it, so for the first time, we’ll be broadcasting the entirety of the PlayStation press conference directly into this Blog.

Additionally, we’re setting up a mini-studio in the PlayStation booth, and we’ll be bringing in developers while the show floor is open for interviews, live demos and to answer your questions via a built-in chat module. It all starts right here on June 6th.

  30. GuernicaReborn says:

I think Sony could pull of a PS4 that caters to hardcore and casuals alike. First of all, Sony has the perfect setup in regards to a motion controller, in that it is completely separate from the traditional controller, but games can implement both types of control if they so choose.

Secondly, as long as there are games, there will be great single player campaigns. We have seen more focus on multiplayer this gen, but overall we still get great single player campaigns as well. There might be one or two games here and there that had single player suffer due to multiplayer, but overall single player campaigns have been pretty plentiful this gen.

And lastly, I think the next gen will feature games that can be had both in store and online on release day. I think this is the best option, as we aren't quite ready for DD only but at the same time it should be an option to those who want to buy the game online.

Having said all that, I don't really see how much games can improve. It almost feels like the next generation of consoles will only be slight upgrades to this gen. Sure, the hardware will improve, which in turn will allow the software to do more. But that will mean developers will incur even more costs in making a game. Who knows, next gen people might come to expect L.A. Noire-like facial expressions, Uncharted-like character/level design and voice acting, CoD like multiplayer… That could put alot of smaller studios out of business, and originality could take a hit.

I guess it's too soon to tell which direction we're headed, I think we might have a better idea after E3.

i feel pretty much the same way in regards to the PS4. as of right now i have absolutely zero desire for it. PGU finished Noire pretty damn amazing. not HEAVY RAIN amazing. but nonetheless amazing. next up IF2! BRING IT!

Long time no speak peeps, work has been keeping me busy so my gaming time has been lacking as of late. But things are starting to get back to normal.

I can wait for the PS4. I'm getting ready to get a bigger HD for my phat and I'm getting a new slim as well. I mean really I have no clue what else they could put into it, a blender maybe…

As for S-E, well I lost faith with them a LONG time ago. Out of touch is right. They lost their mojo and trying to cater to 'western' tastes is not the way to go to regain it. Sad really.

    PGU
Got done with 6th play-through of inFamous last night now just waiting for the 7th so I can dive right into I2. I have two weeks of personal days saved up which are about to go bye-bye if I don't use them so I'm using one of them so I can have uninterrupted time with I2. Yay!

My brother came by with L.A. Noire yesterday and I was impressed with what I saw. It is on my list of games to get eventually. Other than that I've been play Uncharted 2 multiplayer here and there and waiting for E3. That's it, happy gaming people.

  33. Lawless SXE says:

The PS4 should be a remarkable piece of kit, but I can definitely wait for it. I just want more epic, engaging single player experiences, and that is exactly what Sony has been delivering, and will continue to deliver going into the future with the PS3. They have begun to focus more on multiplayer, what with Home, Starhawk, MAG, LBP, etc. and I hope that they don't continue to follow that route going forward.

As for S-E, I'm not going to reiterate how I feel about them.

    Personal Update:
Finished the campaign of inFamous on good again, and I don't want to move on. I want to finish off the stunts, take over the rest of the territories and find that other 130 blast shards, as well as playing it evil to get 100% again. The game is too good, but I must put it aside so that I can blast through L.A. Noire before the sequel. Anyway, I'll be posting my review of iF hopefully tonight, and I'll be going back to finish it after iF2… The game is way too frickin' good.
I've been in the city since mid-week, explaining my absence here and over at TR, and I've got my niece here at home with me again, so I'll remain in a reduced capacity until she goes back to her mother whenever that will be. I'd planned to make quite a dent in Paradise when I was down there, and I wold have had I not left the book here at home :/ Thusly, I remain on the third canto.
And I picked up my shiny new 2011 Jeep Wrangler Sport on Thursday. It's beautiful…
    Peace.

P.S. Working on a preview for Child of Eden for TR at the moment, if anyone cares.

  34. TheHighlander says:

I agree with a lot of what you said, but I think it's wrong to lump Home in with the rest of the Multi-player games, it's somehow different to me, it's a combination of multi and single player experiences, virtual environment and something else. If they could make it a bit more social, perhaps by incorporating additional elements like a personal noticeboard that friends can put things on, I think it would be even better.

    No PS4 yet though…

  35. Danny007 says:

I wouldn't mind a PS4 that sticks with the same concept as the previous stystems. They didn't change the controller much cause it worked. I'll use a Dualshock 4 with the same setup as the Dualshock 3. As far as the system itself goes, just make it more powerful and sick as the competition like they did with the PS3.

  36. Teddie9 says:

    I still love my ps3.

I've given up on square's titles, they'll need to release something great again to regain my interest.

PGU: beat L.A NOIRE, not the most exciting climax but regardless of what happened I actually felt quite happy about the outcome, particularly the cutscene after the credits. With Exams coming up I don't know if I can buy Infamous 2 until after. Which'll take patience that I'm not sure I have….

  37. RadioHeader says:

Barcelona rules! Take that you manc c**ts 😀

    joyous weekend 4 me

  38. TheHighlander says:

I don't want or need a PS4 right now. We're still getting better and better PS3 games, I don't think we need to talk about PS4 until we actually plateau with the PS3. Let's say another two years or so please.

Not sure what I've been playing most this week. Some GT5, Uncharted2, inFamous and Valkyria Chronicles on the PSP. Waiting for inFamous 2 to arrive.

  39. FxTales says:

And that's because we all know that the ps3 has a lot of grunt left in it. I'll be here to enjoy it while it lasts.

  40. sirbob6 says:

PGU: Have been playing some Demon's Souls and FF X-2, plus I will probably try to find that last blast shard in inFamous. inFamous 2 is pre-ordered and I can hardly wait. I think I am more excited for i2 than Uncharted 3.

Beside that I am enjoying the wonderful weather. Have a happy Memorial Day!

  41. Simcoe says:

Well aren't you clever, changing your name so you don't look like a idiot. Too bad it's not going to last.

  42. shadowscorpio says:

PGU: Uncharted 2, Trinity Universe & Demon's Souls. Just platinumed Sonic the Hedgehog 4 : Episode 1 and NIER.

Hey Highlander, Just got word that the new Tales of XIllia trailers are out. This games looks very fluent in its visuals. Clearly utilizing the PS3's power.

  43. Lairfan says:

Yeah, the PS4's pretty much a mystery at this point in time, but I'm hoping when they show us what its got that it'll be more than satisfactory for us PS people.

Btw, I can't wait for i2 either Ben.
